The Loyal Pin (2024) - Thai Series

FIKSI.NET — The Loyal Pin takes us back to sapphic romance in the 1950s. It follows the relationship between Princess Anilaphat (Anin played by Rebbecca Patricia Armstrong) and Lady Pilantita (Pin played by Freen Sarocha Chankimha), beginning in childhood.

I am aware this series is from 2024. This article is not a review, but me expressing my feelings about this wonderful series, The Loyal Pin, starring the popular pairing, Freen and Becky.

The Loyal Pin story revolves around the strong bond between Princess Anil and Lady Pin, which begins in their childhood and continues into their adulthood, with Princess Anil later studying in England. The series explores the societal and cultural context of this period, including the challenges and obstacles faced by same-sex couples during that time.

My Honest Impression of The Loyal Pin (2024)

Freen and Becky is surely a popular couple among GL lovers. The Loyal Pin is the first series starring FreenBecky that have officially, turn me into a fan.

Other than The Loyal Pin, Freen and Becky's performance can be seen in other series, GAP (2022) and in the upcoming 4 Elements Project, The Air (2026). There is a Netflix movie that came out last year, starring them, URANUS 2324 (2024).

But I will focus on their performance and chemistry in The Loyal Pin series in this article though. I will talk about Freen and Becky series and movie in another article.

Let me begin by saying that this series is really well-produced, well-written, and well-performed. There are a lot going on in the story, but it doesn't feel overwhelming for me, non-Thai person. Yes, there are some cultural aspects in the story that directly affects the plot and the story, but they introduce it in ways that makes it very easy to digest and understand.

Perhaps, this is just my assumption, since they are supported by Thailand's Ministry of Commerce, they really sell the cultural aspect of the country. I like the way they present the traditional foods, traditional dancing, fabric (clothes and fashion), and way of life around the palace through the visuals. It's so full of elegance and beauty. I really like the scene where they show us how to wash Thailand traditional clothes using herbal fragrance and spices. I can only imagine how good the scent of fabric or clothes once it dried and folded.

The visuals in The Loyal Pin are so lush and immersive, they awaken my other senses—like watching the glistening fruit scenes makes me almost taste their freshness, or the steaming dishes seem to release an irresistible scent through the screen.

Combined it with amazing performance by Freen and Becky as the two main characters. Damn, their chemistry is top notch! I don't see two actresses acting as girlfriends, but I can only see... girlfriends in love—if you know what I mean.

Some people say that Freen and Becky has grown a lot since they first see them in GAP the series (2022), and it kind of shows here. I'm glad that this is my first Freen and Becky series. Without underestimating their previous work, I have to say their craft here is masterful—every micro-expression speaks volumes—Freen and Becky played their part super well as Lady Pin and Princess Anin. During demanding scenes, they did not fail!

Some people said the last 4 episode of this series is all over the place, but I don't feel the same way. I don't know what they mean, since they didn't elaborate further. For info, I saw their comments on MyDramaList page. Maybe you can find it there.

I think, personally, this series is really great. They use foreshadowing, and other storytelling technique, and it does pays off in the end. I can tell that this series is produced professionally, from the writing, the wardrobe, the visual and the sound. I really like the soundtrack of this series as well, really matches the time setting. The wardrobe and everything—even the background actors—they are really taking me back in 1950s era.

Perhaps this series has a little bit of miss here and there, but yeah... the good out weights the flaws — if you know what I mean. So, this series is definitely a must watch! Whether or not you are a Freen and Becky fans, I think The Loyal Pin is a good series in and of itself.

A bit of tips, you want to go to down the rabbit hole of Freen and Becky fandom, after you watch their performance here, you can watch URANUS 2324 after, then GAP the Series.
